Travel to Derawan island diving paradise


One of the most beautiful dive sites in Indonesia were in Derawan Islands, East Kalimantan. Starting this year, you can visit Derawan with easier access.


Derawan Islands in East Kalimantan is famous for charming nautical tourism, especially the underwater scenery is appealing to divers world. Not to mention the uniqueness of jellyfish in the lake Kakaban, that there are only two in the world.

Unfortunately, to reach Derawan still quite difficult. From Jakarta, you first need to get on a plane to Balikpapan. Then use the plane again to Cape Redeb, go by speedboat to the Charitable. Total journey takes approximately nine hours from Jakarta to Charitable.

Now, there's a long journey towards the Derawan Islands. Already built infrastructure support to achieve it.

"Now the airport in Cape Redeb (Berau) has been expanded. So, tourists can go on to Berau, no need to Balikpapan," said Reko Esthy Astuty, Director General of Tourism Marketing Kemenparekraf, in Jakarta, recently.

Not only Berau, in Maratua, one of the islands in Derawan airport currently under construction. "It should be operational this year, just waiting for permission from the Ministry of Transportation," said Esthy.

Derawan Islands this year plays an important role, because it will be the location of Sail event 2013 Derawan towards the end of 2013. Derawan also is one of 16 tourist destinations in Indonesia that was focused to be developed by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
